Cosmetic surgeon Walter Tom, MD, has a personal mission statement: Improve patients’ self-confidence by enhancing their self-image with advanced technology and education in a warm, safe and secure environment.

After a distinguished career as a general, vascular and transplant surgeon, Dr. Tom founded the Aesthetic Laser & Vein Centers in Santa Rosa. He opened a second office in Napa and, more recently, founded Maui Cosmetic Surgery.

Dr. Tom has been honored with the prestigious Press Democrat “Best Cosmetic Surgeon in Sonoma County” award four consecutive years and his office also won “Best Aesthetician” in 2019.

Dr. Tom and his team specialize in advanced, minimally invasive skin care, such as HydraFacial, chemical peels, photofacial IPL, Clear+Brilliant, Fraxel, CO2 laser resurfacing, thermage, threadlifts, laser hair removal, spider vein sclerotherapy, fillers, Sculptra, Kybella, Botox and Dysport.

He also offers breast augmentation, breast lifts, breast reductions, SmartLipo laser liposuction, tummy tucks, facial and body fat grafting, upper eyelid surgery, Cellfina cellulite reduction, endovenous laser ablation and NeoGraft hair transplants.

Dr. Tom believes cosmetic surgery should care for the whole person, which has led to many satisfied patients. He believes most patients want their appearance to look natural – not as if they have had plastic surgery. Education is important, so initial consultations are always complimentary.

He has developed a unique surgical approach, performing procedures under local tumescent anesthesia. He believes this results in less post-operative pain and leads to quicker recoveries.

Dr. Tom introduced photofacial intense pulsed light therapy to Sonoma County to treat facial aesthetic concerns. He performed the first non-surgical endovenous laser vein ablation in the North Bay. He was also the first surgeon to introduce laser liposuction to Northern California.

A proud fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Cosmetic Physicians and the California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Tom has also served as president of the California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

He is a member of the American Society of Liposuction Surgeons, American Academy of Cosmetic Physicians, American Society of Cosmetic Breast Surgery and the American College of Phlebology. Dr. Tom is a proud Diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery.

Dr. Tom graduated from the University of Michigan and attended medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his general and vascular surgical residency at William Beaumont Hospital and his organ transplant fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

As chief surgeon, he co-founded the kidney transplant program at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He also helped established laparoscopic, minimally invasive abdominal surgery in Sonoma County. Later, Dr. Tom created the Aesthetic Laser & Vein Center of the North Bay.

A consummate educator, he enjoys speaking nationally and internationally, as well as training surgeons and paraprofessionals in cosmetic surgery and other procedures. He is featured weekly on KSRO’s Ask the Expert.

Dr. Tom has lived in Santa Rosa for 34 years. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, listening to music and playing ice hockey.
