Simply Good for Body and Soul

So as I submit these blog posts I feel an obligation to practice what I preach.  So here’s my progress report based on an excerpt reprinted from my Facebook notes December 28, 2009.  Additional comments September 6, 2010

We are in the middle of the holiday season and 2010 is almost upon us. After all of our holiday treats, many of us start to review our lifestyle habits. We want to be healthier, happier and to look good! So now I can monitor how well I have followed the below recommendations!

So I have come across some simple items that are easy to adopt even now.

TAKE A HIKE BUDDY!

If you are feeling a little anxious or have the holiday blues you can improve your mood by just taking a walk or other similar activity. I am not referring to sports psychology nor maximizing competitive athletic potential. Dr. Johnsgard, PhD out of San Jose State University has long proposed that this type of physical activity may help to lift depression and anxiety.

So walk 10 minutes from your door and then turn around. A brisk 20 minute walk can rejuvenate us. TIVO “Dancing with the Stars” and watch it after your walk!

So far so good….taking frequent walks but still sneaking in DWTS!

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

Lifestyle changes can lead to longevity. According to Dr. Walter Bortz clinical associate professor at Stanford University, bad lifestyle habits can hold us back.

Get a HOBBY that reduces stress and provides a sense of accomplishment +2 years

Haven’t found that relaxing hobby yet…I love playing ice hockey with my friends which in a way does reduce my stress.

FLOSSING removes bacteria that can lead to heart disease +6.4 years

A definite YES on this one…so easy to gain 6.4 extra years just by flossing!

Take a VACATION +1 to 2 Years

Vacations are great…even sneaking in a few more this year.  Had a great Labor Day weekend with my sister in Maryland.

SLEEP 7-8 hours to allow the body cells to repair + 2 years

When you are Type A and are passionate about a great cosmetic surgery practice sleep seems to be elusive.  So I have flunked on this one…always room for improvement.  Doctor heal thyself!

Have SEX. Sex relieves stress and release endorphins +3-5 Years (Happier years as well!)

TEA for Me!

While true teas contain caffeine, they are credited with being rich sources of plant-derived antioxidant compounds called polyphenols, which offer protection against harmful free-radicals. This may improve our immune system and blood vessels. Black tea is being studied for its heart-health benefits. Green tea contains antioxidants estimated to be 100 times more powerful than vitamin C and 25 times more powerful than vitamin E. White tea, once reserved for members of China’s imperial courts, may offer the highest levels of disease preventative antioxidants, due to the minimal processing involved in its production. Maybe my mother is not crazy after all for buying that ridiculously expensive White Tea in San Francisco Chinatown!
I love my coffee, but having a cup/pot of tea slows me down. Just this process alone can help to reduce our everyday hectic lives.

Having more tea but I can do so much better. Contributing to this blog is going to make me a lot healthier.  Thank you readers!

SIMPLE VITAMINS TO BRIGHTEN YOUR SKIN!
A healthy diet of fruits and vegetables, even taking oral vitamins may help to slow and possibly reverse the aging process. But the fact is, “the body delivers only a certain percentage of vitamins to your skin, no matter how much you ingest,” says Mary Lupo, MD, clinical professor of dermatology at Tulane University School of Medicine.
Follow this user’s guide with prescription strength topical skin products, and soon your skin will look better than ever (http://laserandvein.com/skincareproducts.php).

Definitely following the above.  Great skin care and lots of sunblock leads to youthful skin!

My Scorecard: B.  So I will redirect my energy to be healthier.  More sleep.
